Don’t Be Ashamed
The world we live in is sinking fast. We stand here watching the End Times unfolding before us. As believers in Christ, I believe we need to act fast and not be bystanders while the people all around us are doomed to hell. Many times instead of doing what it takes to reach people with the Gospel we settle for what we’ve already accomplished (complacency). We often coddle, baby, and watch out that we don’t offend those around us who, in reality, desperately need to hear the truth from us. I am in no way belittling the need for fellowship, but we need to do more than just babysit. We need to develop disciples. We need to challenge people to grow in Christ. We need to stimulate growth. I heard one preacher put it this way, “We have no longer become Fishers of Men, but rather Keepers of Aquariums.” The stakes are too high to settle for the status quo.
We need to spread the Gospel. So, what is the Gospel after all? Very simply put, it is the knowledge of the grace and gift available through the life and sacrificial death of Christ. So, if our goal is to spread the Word, then how can we be ashamed of it? It is the power of God which results in salvation.
Jesus and Sinners
We can learn a lot by the way that Jesus treated the people around Him. Keep in mind that Jesus knew that most of the people around Him were not right with God. But He went to those people anyway; He was drawn to them by His compassion. And because of this, they were many times drawn to Him. In Luke, Chapter 7, we are told of a woman who had lived a sinful life, who was drawn to Jesus to worship Him. When she was ridiculed by those around her, Jesus defended her with a parable about two people who were forgiven their financial debts. One was forgiven a great deal and the other did not owe nearly as much. Jesus’ point was that those who are forgiven of much will in turn appreciate their forgiveness much more than those who are forgiven of little. Jesus then publicly announced to the woman that her sins had been forgiven.
If we spread the Gospel—the knowledge of the grace and gift available through the life and sacrificial death of Christ—people will love God. Romans 5:8 says, “Even while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Knowing this brings salvation. People will realize that here and now, even in their fallen condition, salvation is available for the receiving. So, don’t be ashamed to let them know it.
Lift Up Your Eyes
We have to remember to lift up our eyes. Look at Him. In Isaiah, Chapter 40, the Lord encourages us to do just that. He tells us to remember who created the Heavens and the stars. We must remember His power and strength. Many times we look at ourselves to evaluate what needs to be changed. That’s good, but we must realize where real solutions come from. God is the source. Is our view of God too limited? He is not some magical force or power. He’s the real omnipotent One who made and controls everything. So, remember that His Word is the power of God, which results in salvation. Use it to step in and help this world that is sinking fast.
This is a powerful post! Perfectly written and important. We all really needed to read this article. Our lives should be what He intended them to be and our purpose is to please, praise, and project the good news of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Thank you, Pastor Tony.
